❓ Question
🏛️ HanefiDoes Santa Claus exist?
📗 Ruling
My child, according to Islamic belief, the figure of Santa Claus is not a real entity; it is merely a cultural legend. The foundation of Islamic belief is Tawhid, the oneness of Allah. In Islam, it is Allah alone who provides sustenance, hears prayers, and fulfills needs. This is expressed in the Holy Quran as follows: 'All those who are in the heavens and the earth ask Him; every day He is in a state of glory.' (Surah Ar-Rahman, 29). Therefore, the figure of 'Santa Claus,' who is assumed to bring gifts to children, perform secret acts of kindness, or possess a sacred aspect, is a construct contrary to the tenets of Islamic creed. As Muslims, we must teach our children that sustenance and blessings come only from Allah, and that doing good is an act of worship that should be performed not just at certain times of the year, but at all times and solely for the sake of Allah. In summary, this character is merely a fairy tale hero and has no place in Islamic belief. It is most appropriate to teach our children the beautiful morality and true values of Islam instead of such legends.
