How can it be explained that carbon is present in humans even though it is not in the soil?

As-salamu alaykum, my child. First, I must state that modern scientific data confirms that carbon is abundantly present in the soil (in the form of organic matter, coal, and various compounds). However, we can explain your question in light of the wisdom behind human creation and the declarations of the Holy Quran as follows: In the Holy Quran, Allah the Almighty clearly states that He created man from soil (turab), clay (tin), and a refined essence of soil (sulalah). 'And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.' (Surah Al-Mu'minun, 12). According to the Maturidi understanding, which is the theological basis of the Hanafi school, Allah's art of creation is both a miracle and within a system. The creation of man from soil means that he is a composition of elements found on earth. The building blocks of life, such as carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen, are present in the content of the earth and soil. It is appropriate to look at the matter from these three points: 1. Elemental Harmony: The term 'soil' is not just the dust on the surface; it is a foundation that encompasses all the minerals and elements of the earth. All the elements in the human body are present in the layers of the earth. 2. Refined Essence (Sulalah): The expression 'refined essence' in the verse points to the selection and gathering of specific elements within the soil. Carbon is one of the most fundamental parts of this selected essence. 3. Transformation through Sustenance: The human body is constantly renewed through plants that grow from the soil and animals that eat these plants. The carbon and other elements in the soil become part of human cells through the chain of sustenance. Consequently, the presence of carbon in humans does not contradict the truth of 'creation from soil' reported by the Quran; on the contrary, it confirms it. The transformation of elements within inanimate soil into a living and conscious human being by Allah's command of 'Be' is a sign of His infinite power. May Allah increase your knowledge.
