1

لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ اِ۬لۡقِيَٰمَةِ

No, I swear by the day of Resurrection

2

وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِالنَّفۡسِ اِ۬للَّوَّامَةِ

And no, I swear by the censuring voice of conscience

3

أَيَحۡسِبُ اُ۬لۡإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ

Does man suppose that We would not (be able to) put his bones (back) together

4

بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُۥ

Indeed, We have the power to (mold and) sculpt (even) his finger tips in perfect proportions

5

بَلۡ يُرِيدُ اُ۬لۡإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفۡجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ

Actually, man (just) wants to keep on sinning

6

يَسۡـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ اُ۬لۡقِيَٰمَةِ

(So) he asks (derisively), "When is the day of resurrection

7

فَإِذَا بَرِقَ اَ۬لۡبَصَرُ

(It will occur) when the sight becomes dazed (in a stupor)

8

وَخَسَفَ اَ۬لۡقَمَرُ

And the moon turns lightless

9

وَجُمِعَ اَ۬لشَّمۡسُ وَاَلۡقَمَرُ

And the sun and the moon are made to run into each other

10

يَقُولُ اُ۬لۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذٍ أَيۡنَ اَ۬لۡمَفَرُّ

On that day, man will say, "Where is the refuge

11

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ

Not at all! There is no refuge

12

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ اِ۬لۡمُسۡتَقَرُّ

The ultimate abode, (the journey´s end), is with your Lord today

13

يُنَبَّؤُاْ اُ۬لۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذِۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ

That day (each) man will be apprised of everything he sent forward, as well as everything he held back

14

بَلِ اِ۬لۡإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةࣱ‏

In fact, man (really) has an insight into his (own) self

15

وَلَوۡ أَلۡقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ

Even though he makes up excuses

16

لَا تُحَرِّكۡ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعۡجَلَ بِهِۦٓ

Do not move your tongue hurriedly (in an attempt) to hasten the (revelation of the) Qur´an

17

إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا جَمۡعَهُۥ وَقُرۡءَانَهُۥ

Indeed, it is Our responsibility to have it collected (compiled) and read (as a book)

18

فَإِذَا قَرَأۡنَٰهُ فَاَتَّبِعۡ قُرۡءَانَهُۥ

Therefore, follow the recital (attentively), as We recite the Qur´an to you

19

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا بَيَانَهُۥ

It is (also) Our responsibility to explain to you its meaning

20

كَلَّا بَلۡ يُحِبُّونَ اَ۬لۡعَاجِلَةَ

No (oh people), in fact you (just) love the transient life (of this world)

21

وَيَذَرُونَ اَ۬لۡأٓخِرَةَ

While you forsake the afterlife

22

وُجُوهࣱ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ نَّاضِرَةٌ

That day, some faces would be radiant

23

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةࣱ‏

Looking at their Lord (in anticipation)

24

وَوُجُوهࣱ يَوۡمَئِذِۢ بَاسِرَةࣱ‏

While (some) faces that day, would be gloomy and sullen

25

تَظُنُّ أَن يُفۡعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةࣱ‏

Convinced that a cataclysmic catastrophe would soon strike them

26

كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ اِ۬لتَّرَاقِيَ

No! In fact when the soul (heaves up and) reaches the collar bone (as it exits the body)

27

وَقِيلَ مَن رَّاقࣲ‏

And (after) it has been asked, "Any miracle worker? (Can anyone help)

28

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ اُ۬لۡفِرَاقُ

And the (dying) man knows that it is farewell

29

وَاَلۡتَفَّتِ اِ۬لسَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ

Then, the shin will twine around its twin _ (the other shin)

30

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ اِ۬لۡمَسَاقُ

And events will then progress towards your Lord

31

فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلّٜ يٰ

So, he refused to affirm, and did not perform the ´salat´

32

وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٜ يٰ

Instead, he rejected the truth and turned away

33

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ يَتَمَطّٜ يٰٓ

Then vainly and haughtily, he walked back to his family

34

أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلٜ يٰ

Misery is for you. Misery

35

ثُمَّ أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلٜ يٰٓ

Yes, of course! Misery is for you. Misery

36

أَيَحۡسِبُ اُ۬لۡإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتۡرَكَ سُدًى

Did man think that he would be left unchecked, (and never be called to account)

37

أَلَمۡ يَكُ نُطۡفَةࣰ مِّن مَّنِيࣲّ تُمۡنٜ يٰ

Was he not (just) an ejected drop of semen

38

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةࣰ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوّٜ يٰ

Then, he became a clot, and He (Allah) gave him the form and proportions

39

فَجَعَلَ مِنۡهُ اُ۬لزَّوۡجَيۡنِ اِ۬لذَّكَرَ وَاَلۡأُنثٜ يٰٓ

And from the clot, He created two sexes _ male and female

40

أَلَيۡسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحۡـِۧيَ اَ۬لۡمَوۡتٜ يٰ

Isn´t such (a Mighty) being, (the Almighty), capable of bringing the dead back to life
