hanefi
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions. It is a blessed habit for a believer to begin their day by remembering Allah, seeking His protection, and renewing their intention to live in accordance with His pleasure. In the Hanafi school, we emphasize following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as the primary source of morning supplications (Adhkar). Here are the most authentic and recommended supplications for the morning, derived from the Sunnah, which hold great virtue according to the scholars of our Madhab. ### 1. The Opening of the Day The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us to acknowledge our dependence on Allah immediately upon waking. "Alhamdulillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur." (Praise is to Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the resurrection.) [Sahih al-Bukhari] ### 2. Seeking Protection for the Day The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that whoever says this three times in the morning will not be harmed by anything: "Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'as-mihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim." (In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing is harmed on earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.) [Sunan Abi Dawud, Sunan Tirmidhi] ### 3. Seeking Allah’s Sustenance and Guidance It is reported in the Sunnah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this after the Fajr prayer: "Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan." (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds that are accepted.) [Sunan Ibn Majah] ### 4. The Master of Supplications (Sayyid al-Istighfar) Though it can be recited at any time, starting the day with this is a means of immense forgiveness and closeness to Allah: "Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani wa ana 'abduka, wa ana 'ala 'ahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu. A'udhu bika min sharri ma sana'tu, abu'u laka bini'matika 'alayya, wa abu'u bidhanbi faghfir li fa'innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa anta." (O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I am abiding by Your covenant and promise as best as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for none can forgive sins except You.) [Sahih al-Bukhari] ### 5. Quranic Protection Recite the "Three Quls" (Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas) three times each. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that they are sufficient for one in every respect (protecting one from all harm). [Sunan Abi Dawud] ### Guidance from the Hanafi Perspective In our tradition, consistency is more beloved to Allah than a large volume of deeds performed sporadically. If you find these too many, begin by reciting the "Bismillahil-ladhi..." and the "Sayyid al-Istighfar." Furthermore, as a Hanafi, remember that these supplications are most effective when performed with a present heart (hudur al-qalb). Ensure your morning begins with the performance of the Fajr prayer in its prescribed time, as this is the most important act of worship to start the day. May Allah grant you a day filled with barakah, ease, and acceptance of your deeds.
